Rs 16 lakhs extorted from doctor on the pretext of doubling the money in Pune district

The incident took place in Varale in Khed taluka from September 2020 to September 2021. A case has been registered against a businessman in this regard. (Pune Pimpri Crime)

Ganesh Muralidhar Sonawane (38) from Pune has filed a complaint at Mahalunge Police Station on Friday. Police have registered a case under IPC 406, 420, 507 against Pappu Ramdevashi from Varale, natively from Rajasthan.

According to the police, the complainant’s hospital is in Varale. As the accused has a grocery store near his hospital, they know each other. As the accused is non-Maharashtrian, no bank was giving him a loan. Also, as he was not getting money from any chit fund, he sought financial help from the complainant.

The accused told the complainant that, “You help me financially only as an investor. I will give a monthly profit on the amount you invest.” He also said that he will double the money.

The complainant trusted the accused and gave him Rs 15,60,000. After a few days the complainant demanded money. Then the accused called and threatened to kill the complainant. After realizing that he had been cheated, the complainant lodged a complaint at the Mahalunge police station. API Sarang is conducting further investigation.
