Rent of shop in Mandai to be hiked from ₹32 to ₹845
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Mandai Shop Rent |A decision has been taken to waive off the rent of shops in Mandai during the coronavirus pandemic because Mandai was shut. However, according to Ready Reckoner, a revaluation of the shops has been done and a substantial hike has been proposed in the rent. The proposal has been placed in the standing committee. Now, the rent will be ₹845. To encourage more people to visit Mandai, permission for sale of other products apart from vegetables will be given. In Pune city, the Mahatma Phule Mandai is the oldest mandai and it has 1,600 shops. After PMC came into being, mandais have been built at 31 places.
There are 1,400 shops and they have been given on rent to vegetable and fruit sellers. The last rent hike took place in 2004 and there has been no increase since then. Since the rent is ₹32 per shop, it is inadequate to take care of electricity, cleanliness and maintenance charges.
Hence, the PMC carried out evaluation of all mandais through the property management department and had asked it to fix the rent of the shops. Accordingly, the civic body has prepared a proposal. After the process started, the shopkeepers had opposed the move to increase the rent. However, the civic administration has stuck to its decision and sent the proposal to the standing committee.
As per new valuation, various stages of rent increase have been decided. From 2021 to 2025, five times, six times, seven times and eight times rent will be collected. From 2025-26, there will be an annual hike of 12 per cent. From 2021-22, a shop can be given on rent for 30 years.

Price after evaluation ₹618 plus tax of ₹227 + ₹845
In four years, the rent will be increased eight times
In 2021-22, rent will be hiked five times: ₹527 per month
In 2022-23, rent will be hiked six times: ₹634 per month
In 2023-24, rent will be hiked seven times; ₹739 per month
In 2024-25, rent will be hiked by eight times; ₹845 per month
