Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Ashok Morale on Saturday issued order to impose fine of Rs 5,000 on Bankar who is currently posted in the control room.

Morale stated that the policeman’s behaviour in public was not acceptable and that he has defamed the police department through his actions.

According to police, autorickshaw driver Shahrukh Shaikh of Bhavani Peth, was about to reach the Maldhakka chowk when Bankar waved him to a halt. As he saw that there was no passenger, he took the driver to an isolated spot near the chowk and forcibly took money from the driver explaining rules to him, but did not issue a receipt in return for the money. However, a member of the public shot the entire incident on his smartphone and uploaded it on a social media.

The video went viral and people started tagging the traffic police department, following which the action was taken against the policeman.
