Pune: Heavy rains lashed the entire Pune city on Wednesday and Thursday… several low lying areas were flooded… water entered houses, tree felling incidents were reported and compound walls of many societies crumbled… but even in this adversity the jumbo Covid Care Centre facility set up at the College Of Engineering Pune (COEP) grounds in Shivajinagar faced no problem whatsoever. Hundreds of patients admitted in the jumbo hospital received uninterrupted medical care even during the highest and severest downpour in the city.
Milind Bongale, Superintendent Engineer of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said that the
jumbo hospital construction was done taking into consideration such adverse climatic conditions and hence it survived the severe downpour that all citizens witnessed on Wednesday night and Thursday.
Mayur Patel of Deepali Design Exhibit Private Limited said, “Such fine arrangements were made while setting up the jumbo facility that each and every drop was drained out. Hence there was no water accumulation inside the jumbo hospital premises even when the highest rainfall in the shortest time was recorded in the region.”
Engineers and other officials also conducted a safety audit on Thursday after rains subsided. All ropes and tents were inspected by the officials and there was no cause of worry, said officials.Features of COEP Jumbo Hospital
• Patients from Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad city, Rural District area admitted
• Total 800 beds hospital of which 200 are ICU beds and 600 are oxygenated beds
• Spread over 32 thousand square metre area of COEP ground, the hospital is of 13 thousand square metre size
• Equipped with liquid oxygen tank and reserved oxygen cylinders
• Proper ventilation for clean and pure air ensured with low pressure air conditioning systems
• Management Centre, Laboratory, Medical store, accommodation for doctors, canteen, parking facilities provided
• Special facilities at patient admission area especially for the differently-abled patients are provided
• Hospital area divided in red and green zones for visitors and patients
