Pune: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has praised BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Raut said Fadnavis is a very capable leader and has the potential to become a ‘national leader’. Raut also taunted the opposition party leaders saying that ringing bells and wearing janeu is not Hindutva.
Raut was speaking at a press conference organized at the Pune Working Journalists Union on Saturday. He added, “We have always respected Devendra Fadnavis as a leader of our state. He is young and he will become more experienced. He has the potential to become a national leader in the future. Nobody has a magic wand to remain in power forever. Fadnavis became Chief Minister of our state out of the blue but he hasn’t been able to digest this surprise. He should come out of this ‘shock’ and continue with constructive politics. Taking an anti-government stand from day one does not fit into our democratic model.”
Raut: Hindutva is not about Janeu
Raut also commented on the Hindutva issue. He said, “Out Hindutva is not political. We have never used Hindutva for political gains. Shiv Sena has put forward its Hindutva-based stand on several issues even today. Ringing bells and wearing janeu is not Hindutva. The opposition parties should learn Hindutva from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Raut on the role of opposition parties
Raut criticized the opposition parties of opposing the development of state under the garb of political opposition. He said, “There is good communication and coordination between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Similarly there should be good communication between the Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition of the state. Unfortunately this is not happening. Opposition leaders should understand that just because they have been deprived of power does not mean that they will oppose the state.”

He added, “We will welcome a constructive opposition. We are not of the view of the central government that there shouldn’t be opposition. Democracy requires a constructive opposition and unless that happens the state cannot progress. Maharashtra has a legacy of such constructive opposition but unfortunately nowadays there are some who think that those who have ideological differences do not have the right to stay in politics and social life. There are many challenges before the state government and the opposition is creating them and thereby obstructing the progress of the state.”
Pune is political centre, but Balasaheb shifted it to Mumbai
Raut said, “Pune has always remained the political centre of Maharashtra and national level politics. During Balasaheb Thackeray’s period it shifted to Mumbai. It was due to Balasabeb that the political strings were pulled from Mumbai, but now all important people are from Pune.”
