Pune: Senior citizen hit by dacoits with a rod in Aundh succumbs to injuries

Pune: A senior citizen who was injured in an attack by a gang of dacoits died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Aundh on Friday.

Three persons were attacked with a rod by five-six dacoits with an intention to loot them. Two of them were seriously hurt in the small hours on Thursday in Aundh.

The deceased has been identified as Samir Roy Chowdhary (77), a resident of Aundh. Ramsobatikumar Thakku Mandal (38), a resident of Aundh, is being treated at the Medipoint Hospital in Aundh.

Shreyas Satish Shetty (30), a resident of Khadki, who also received injuries in the assault, lodged a complaint at the Chatuhshrungi Police Station on Thursday. Unidentified accused in the age group of 20 to 25 were booked under sections 397, 307, 341 of the IPC and under provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act.

According to the police, local residents set out for a walk in the wee hours. The incident took place in front of Purvi Mobile Shopee in Aundh at around 5.15 am on Thursday. The gang of dacoits targeted the three persons by hitting them with an iron rod. Samir Roy Chawdhary was rushed to the hospital by a newspaper vendor. He was being treated in the ICU. However, he died during treatment.

Addl CP Manoj Patil, DCP Vijaykumar Magar, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Arti Bansode, Sr PI Ajay Kulkarni, PI Ganesh Mane, PI Yuvaraj Nandre, API Narendra Patil, Rajkumar Kendre and PI Sachin Jadhav visited the incident spot. PI Yuvaraj Nandre is investigating further.
