Pune police arrest ‘Doctor’ thief, recovers 30 stolen vehicles

Pune : NpNews 24 – Officials from the Faraskhana police station have arrested a 22-year-old,w ho used to dress up as doctor, and then went on stealing vehicles. Cops have recovered 30 stolen vehicles totally worth Rs 27.254 lakhs from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Shahrukh Razzak Pathan of Budhachi Wadi, Banpuri, Tal. Purandar, Pune district. He would travel in car from Saswad to Pune and then commit thefts.

Acting on tip-off received by policeman Shankar Kumbhar,a trap was laid and Pathan was arrested. Accordingly, the squad led by Police Sub-Inspector Mahendra Patil seized 26 two-wheelers, three foun-wheelers and one tempo from his possesion. These vehicles were stolen between 2018-19 from the jurisdictions of Faraskhana, Chinchwad, Bundgarden, Wanowrie, Hadapsar, Wakad, Deccan, Kothrud police stations in Pune, as well as Kalyan, and Daund.

DCP (zone 1) Suhas Bavche said, “The accused used to wear apron to look like doctor and also kept a bag with him to avoid detection. If anyone questioned him, he would identify himself as doctor and walk away. He used to steal the vehicles breaking the locks and then sell them at throwaway prices.”

Investigation team included senior police inspector Kishore Navande, Police Inspector (crime) Sambhaji Shirke and policemen Bapusaheb Khutavad, Kedar Adhav, Dinesh Bhandurge, Amol Sarde, Vikas Bojahade, Sayaji Chavan, Vishal Chaugule, Harshal Shinde, Mahabir Walate, Mohan Dalvi, Akash Walmiki and Amey Rasal.
