Pune PMC News | Pune Municipal Corporation to Construct New Building for Over 3,500 Pending Cases

Pune : Pune PMC News | Pune Municipal Corporation is grappling with over three and a half thousand pending cases across various departments, resulting in a strain on administrative work. Commissioner Vikram Kumar has addressed the issue, revealing plans to construct a new building specifically for the municipal court. The current space is inadequate, and with only eight judges overseeing the cases, the court is unable to function at full capacity.

The pending cases involve a range of matters, including construction, income tax, encroachment, environment, health, and land acquisition. These cases are spread across different courts, including the Municipal District Court, Civil Court, Magistrate Court, High Court, Supreme Court, and National Green Arbitrator. The sheer volume of pending cases, approximately 3,800, has led to a backlog that continues to grow, hindering efficient administrative operations.

Commissioner Kumar recently held discussions with the Law Department and judges to address the situation. It was determined that in order to expedite the disposal of pending cases, the courts need to operate full-time. However, this requires adequate space. Consequently, plans have been put in motion to construct a separate building that can accommodate eight functioning courts simultaneously.

The current court building within Pune Municipal Corporation is inadequate to meet the demands of the growing caseload. Over 1,000 cases have been temporarily adjourned and await their turn for a hearing. The construction of a new building will not only help alleviate the burden on the existing courts but also streamline the legal processes. The new facility will be equipped with all the necessary amenities to ensure efficient and effective operations.

By addressing the issue of pending cases and providing a suitable infrastructure for the municipal court, Pune Municipal Corporation aims to enhance the delivery of justice and expedite the resolution of legal matters. The construction of the new building signifies the administration’s commitment to streamlining the judicial process and ensuring that pending cases are addressed promptly.
