Pune News | 50 women hailing from Maharashtra will showcase state’s culture in London

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune News | A ‘saree walkathon’ has been organised in London to create awareness about Indian handloom and handmade jewellery. Five hundred women from different states are going to participate in the event and they include 50 women from the state. Anuja Jadhav of Pune said the importance of Maharashtrian culture will be explained to the people. (Pune News)

The Swadeshi movement started in Bengal from August 7, 1905. Since then, August 7 is known as National Handloom Day. A ‘Saree Walkathon’ has been organised in London under the leadership of Dr Deepti Jain on behalf of ‘British Woman in Saree’. This event is being held in London for the first time and 500 Indian women are going to take part in the event. Meanwhile, women from various states of India will pass through historical and important places in London, wearing traditional attire.

The rally will start from Trafalgar Square and will end at the historic Parliament Square at Westminster in London.
Anuja Jadhav, who hails from Pune and Rama Karmokar from Mumbai are going to represent Maharashtra in the rally. Apart from the duo, 48 women from the state will highlight the importance of Maharashtra’s culture. The women are going to be dressed in traditional attire like a nine yard saree, wear traditional ornaments and also don a pheta (headgear). After paying tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square, some of the women will be presenting the traditional Lavani dance.
