A notification has been issued by Joint Secretary of Revenue and Forest Department Sanjay Bankar. According to the new notification, as per section 5 and subsection 3 of the act of 1947 which bans fragmentation of land and allows unification of land, the registration of 20 guntha jirayati field and 10 guntha irrigated field is possible. By making some changes in the notifications issued earlier, the state government has issued a notification about gunthewari. The state government has presented its case in the Supreme Court and the matter is sub judice.

Because of small pieces of land, the production capacity is reduced and expenditure increases, was the argument behind making a law against defragmentation. Hence, the act was applicable to 40 guntha of jirayati field and 20 guntha of irrigated field. Hence, such fields were not being registered. However, the lands’ standard area has changed ie. Reduced.

Since the number of family members have increased, it is necessary for everyone to get the ownership of land. By using technology, farmers are getting more output from a small piece of land. Considering this, the state government has decided to reduce the standard area of the lands. This has cleared the way for registering the names of the farmers of on the 7/12 land extract of 20 guntha jirayat and 10 guntha irrigated fields. This will mainly benefit farmers of Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts having irrigated fields and less standard area.

Earlier, the area of irrigated and jirayati fields were different in various districts. However, as per the notification, except the areas of municipal corporations, municipal councils, the jirayati and irrigated fields have been rationalised. Accordingly, 20 gunthas of jirayati and 10 gunthas of irrigated area can be purchased or sold, as specified in the notification. This has provided relief to farmers and land owners.

Sarita Narke, State Director, Information Technology, Department of Land Records said, “Due to the notification issued by the state government, now the process of fragmentation of land has been standardised. This has provided relief to the farmers. The decision is applicable only to rural areas and not applicable to areas under municipal corporations and municipal councils.”
