Pune: Heinous Rape of Minor Girl in Katraj; Accused Booked Under POCSO, Atrocities Acts

Pune: A 19-year-old boy from Mangadewadi, Pune, forcibly raped a minor girl by alluring her with a fake marriage promise and also abused her on her caste. In this regard, Bharati Vidyapeeth Police registered a police case against the accused under the POCSO Act and the Atrocities Act.

The 49-year-old mother of the 17-year-old victim girl living in Mangadewadi lodged a police complaint regarding it on Friday, February 16. The accused has been identified as Ashfaq Syed and is a resident of the same area. The given incident took place from January 2024 until February 12 at the victim’s house.

The accused and the victim girl are acquainted with each other. As per the police complaint, the accused initially followed the girl’s account on social media and then befriended her. After that, he trapped the girl in his love and coerced her to marry him when she turned 18.

Felling into the accused’s trap, the girl believed him and shared her personal details, such as her mobile number and residential address, with him. Taking advantage of it, the accused once went into the girl’s house, ensuring no one was present in the house, and forcibly maintained physical relations with her. He sexually assaulted the girl, and when she resisted him, he slurred casteist remarks about her caste.

Following the incident, the girl and her mother sought police help and filed a complaint against the accused. Accordingly, police booked the accused under IPC 376, 376/2/N, the POCSO Act, and the Atrocities Act and initiated a police investigation under the charge of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Swargate Division, Kalyani Vagyani.
