Pune: Female State Tax Officer Caught Red-Handed Accepting Bribe, Faces Police Complaint

Pune: A female state tax officer was apprehended yesterday by the anti-corruption bureau while accepting a bribe of three thousand rupees in flagrante delicto. In this regard, a police complaint was registered against the concerned state tax officer at Yerawada police station.

The accused state tax officer has been identified as Malati Ramesh Kathale (age 43). Kathale is working in the goods and services tax (GST) office.

As per the information, a businessman from Yerawada had submitted an online application at the GST office for obtaining a GST number in the name of his wife. The application was pending with State Revenue Officer Malati Kathale.

After that, Kathale contacted the businessman and called him to the GST office. Brazenly, Kathale demanded a bribe of three thousand rupees for giving the GST number to his wife. Shocked by the officer’s demand, the businessman filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

After receiving the complaint, ACB verified its originality and set up a trap in the goods and services tax office on Wednesday evening. As per the plan, Kathale was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of three thousand rupees.

This action was taken by Deputy Superintendent Nitin Jadhav and his team under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent Dr. Sheetal Janve. Police Inspector Prasad Lonare is investigating further.
