Pune: Fake Police Character Verification Certificate Scam Uncovered in Pimpri Chinchwad; Police Detained Prime Accused

Pune: In a startling revelation, authorities in Pimpri Chinchwad have unearthed a case involving the fabrication of fake police character verification certificates. The investigation into the matter has led to the arrest of a young man, identified as Ganesh Sanjay Kunjkar, aged 24 and a resident of Bhuinj in Taluka Wai, District Satara. Kunjkar, who had been residing in Pimpri-Chinchwad for the past two years, was apprehended by Crime Branch Unit One of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police.

Reports indicate that Kunjkar, formerly employed in a private company, ventured into the labour supply business, recognising the high demand for security guards in the area. Aware of the necessity of police verification for such roles, he resorted to fraudulent means to provide fake certificates to individuals seeking employment. These certificates were offered for a mere Rs 500 to 700 each.

Kunjkar’s modus operandi involved taking screenshots of original police verification certificates from individuals’ mobile phones. He then manipulated these screenshots using a laptop to create counterfeit certificates. The investigation uncovered that numerous individuals, particularly security guards, were recipients of these forged documents.

During the raid, law enforcement seized incriminating evidence, including a laptop, mobile phone, and a cache of 51 fake character verification certificates, estimated to be worth Rs 40,000. The gravity of the situation prompted authorities to register a case against the accused at the Wakad police station.

This action was taken by a team of police personnel, including Senior Police Inspector of Crime Branch Unit One Gorakh Kubhar, Sub-Inspector Shivaji Kande, Police Constable Manoj Kumar Kamle, Balu Kokate, Amit Khanwilkar, Somnath Borhade, Mahadev Javale, Ganesh Mahadik, Sachin More, Swapnil Mahale, Vishal Bhoir, Maruti Jaybhaye, Ajit Rupanwar, and Tanaji Pansare, under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime Sandeep Doifode, Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Vishal Hire, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Balasaheb Kopnar.
