Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao tests positive for COVID-19

Pune: Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao has tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rao took the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine a few days ago. Rao has been at the forefront while fighting the virus and enforcing strict rules in the city. He was also at the forefront of the vaccination campaign.

Earlier on Friday, Rao had attended a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune, Ajit Pawar.

Maharashtra on Monday recorded 15,051 new Covid-19 infections which took the state’s tally to 2,329,464, while active cases rose to 130,547. The surge in Covid-19 cases has led the government to impose lockdown or partial lockdown in several districts and cities of the state.

The health ministry said that Maharashtra remained the biggest contributor of Covid-19 cases in the tally followed by Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.

Maharashtra’s tally of cured patients now stands at 21,44,743 after 10,671 patients were discharged today after full recovery. With this, state’s recovery rate is 92.07 per cent. Meanwhile, 48 Covid-19 deaths were reported in the state today, taking the fatality rate to 2.27 per cent.

Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab, cumulatively account for 77 per cent of India’s total active cases while Maharashtra alone accounts for more than 58 per cent of the total active cases in the country.
