Pune Cyber Crime | Senior citizen cheated of Rs 16 lakh under the guise of helping him with insurance policy claim; complaint lodged at Swargate police station
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Cyber Crime | A person could not claim the money due to him because the insurance policy documents were misplaced in his house. He became a victim of assurances given by cyber crooks to help him in getting the claim and he paid Rs 15 lakh 74 thousand to get the claim. When he contacted the insurance company, it returned the premium paid by him. Then, the senior citizen realised that he had been cheated. (Pune Cyber Crime)
A 66-year-old citizen staying in Mukund Nagar, has lodged a complaint at the Swargate police station. The senior citizen has retired from a company. He had invested in an insurance company when he was working.
The police had matured in March 2011. However, he had misplaced the policy documents and hence, had not made a claim. In July 2019, a woman named Neha Sharma called him and told him that the maturity amount was invested in the market by the company and it had increased to Rs 6 lakh 8 thousand. She told him that to claim the money, he will have to buy new policies and forced him to buy nine policies. He paid Rs 6 lakh 53 thousand in a bank account. After a few days, he received insurance policy documents. Later, the mobiles numbers of Neha Sharma and Arpita Jain stopped functioning.
In September 2020, he got a call from Ria Chakravarty. She told him that she was speaking from Bima Lokpal IRDA Fund Releasing Department and she had received a file of his insurance policies and the amount is Rs 32 lakh. She told him that the agent had taken a loan of Rs 32 lakh. She said another file had also come and a loan of Rs 20 lakh had been taken. Hence, a loan of Rs 52 lakh had been taken. She told him that if he wanted to claim the money, he will have to pay add on stamp duty, submit an NOC and do a full and final settlement. She told him that he will have to deposit some money in the company’s account. Ria Chakravarthy and her colleague Kabir Tyagi forced him to pay Rs 15 lakh 74 thousand 180 for seeking a claim between September 2020 to March 2021.
After he found that the mobile numbers of Ria Chakravarthy and Kabir Tyagi were not working, he sent a letter to IRDA seeking his insurance claim. Then, the insurance company closed his policy and returned Rs 6 lakh 53 thousand 9 paid by him as premiums. He realised that Ria Chakravarthy and Kabir Tyagi had cheated him of Rs 15 lakh 74 thousand 180 under the guise of returning the amount of his policy claim.
He has lodged a complaint with the Swargate police and PSI Bhosale is investigating the case.
