Pune Crime | Woman police staffer, husband booked for cheating businessman of Rs 19.50 lakh promising 20% returns on investment

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Crime | A woman police staffer and her husband have been booked for cheating a businessman of Rs 19.50 lakh after promising 20% returns on investment. The Samarth police station filed an FIR after a court directive in this regard. Sadashiv Nalawade (52), a resident of Rasta Peth lodged a complaint. (Pune Crime)

 

The police have booked Jyoti Shankar Gaikwad (50) and her husband Shankar Laxman Gaikwad (54), both residents of Rasta Peth. The incident took place between May 28, 2021 and March 28, 2022.

 

According to the police, complainant Nalawade has a business of four-wheelers repairs. Sahnakr Gaikwad runs a tours and travels business. Jyoti Gaikwad is currently posted in the economic offences wing (EOW) at the police commissionerate. Shankar Gaikwad used to get his cars repaired from Nalawade. Thus, they were familiar with each other. The accused asked Nalawade to invest in their tour and travels business. They promised to pay 20% interest per month on his investment. They said they would buy new cars with the money invested. Since Gaikwad’s wife knows top officials in the police department, Nalawade would not fear business on credit.

 

They told Nalawade that the police use their cars. To win his confidence, they called up senior police officials and told how they recovered money from clients. Thus, Nalawade invested Rs 19.50 lakh in installments. Gaikwad started avoiding him from February 2022. The complainant suspected that he never purchased cars as promised. Then he visited Gaikwad at this home and demanded his money back. Nalwade told him that he needed money for his son’s marriage. However, Gaikwad did not give his money back. Then he issued an ultimatum to Gaikwad saying he would approach the police. Gaikwad handed him over a cheque.

 

However, the cheque was not honoured. Later, he kept issuing cheques on various pretext, which also bounced. Nalawade then issued a legal notice to Gaikwad, who locked his house and vanished. Nalawade found a seizure notice of Kotak Mahindra Bank pasted on Gaikwad’s door. Then he approached the police, who did not entertain him. Finally, he filed a case in the court, which directed the police to file a case. Hence, the Samarth police registered an offence.
