Pune Crime | Rs 5 lakh ransom demanded from city-based lawyer, gets death threat; six booked
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | A city-based lawyer, who represented a woman in an alimony case, was threatened by her husband and five others. They also issued death threats to the lawyer as the woman won the legal battle with the help of the lawyer. Upset with the setback, the man demanded Rs 5 lakh ransom from his former wife’s legal counsel. Six people have been booked in this connection. (Pune Crime)
The 47-year-old lawyer from Vadgaon Sheri lodged a complaint at the Koregaon Park police station, on the basis of which the police have booked Robin Ashok Kumar Jain, Ashok Kumar Jain, Chandra Ashok Kumar Jain, all residents of Bavdhan, Manoj Bidkar, a resident of Shaniwar Peth and his accomplices have been booked in this regard. The incident took place at Jehangir Hospital Chowk during 2018-January 12-23, 2022- March 25, 2022.
According to the police, the complainant lawyer argued the case on behalf of Robin Jain’s former wife. The family court directed Jain to pay monthly maintenance to her. Jain was enraged as the court verdict went against him. So, he, along with Manoj Bidkar and his two aides, accosted the lawyer near the Jahangir Hospital Chowk, beat him and threatened to kill him. “You are responsible for a monetary loss to us,” they told him and abused him using casteist language. They demanded Rs 5 lakh from him. Initially, the lawyer ignored them but they repeatedly demanded the ransom and issued threats. Hence, he approached the court. The police have booked the suspects for extortion and crime against the SC-ST community. PSI Sawant is investigating the case.
