Pune Crime News | Aundh Hospital Scandal! Doctors and Nurses Sentenced for Baby’s Death

Pimpri-Chinchwad : Pune Crime News | In a heartbreaking incident of medical negligence, a baby lost its life at birth due to the failure of doctors and nurses to adequately attend to a woman who was admitted to Aundh General Hospital for delivery due to abdominal pain. The shocking incident, which occurred on November 29, 2010, has resulted in two doctors and three nurses being found guilty and sentenced to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each, along with a two-year term of simple imprisonment. Additionally, a compensation of one lakh rupees has been ordered to be paid to the aggrieved woman by Judicial First Class Magistrate N. R. Gajabhaye.

The medical professionals involved in this unfortunate incident are Gynecologist Dr. Arpita Pradeep Bawarkar, Dr. Atmaram Venkatarao Shejul, Nurse Manisha Bhalchandra Joshi, Ujjwala Dattatray Nagapur, and Shubhangi Ramchandra Kamble, all associated with Aundh General Hospital.

The matter came to light when Bhagwan Daulat Wakode, the driver of Aundh Hospital, filed a complaint with Sangvi Police Station. His daughter, Manisha Nilesh Oru, was admitted to the hospital for childbirth. Tragically, due to the negligence of Dr. Bawarkar and Dr. Shejul, who overlooked the patient’s abdominal pain, and the nurses who failed to communicate the critical information to the doctors, the baby did not survive the birth.

Prompt action by the police led to the collection of technical and circumstantial evidence, which resulted in the filing of a charge sheet in the court. Subsequently, the court found the accused guilty, and they have been convicted accordingly.

The sentencing, though offering some form of justice to the grieving family, cannot truly compensate for the loss of a young life. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the utmost importance of vigilance and due diligence in the medical profession.
