Pune Crime Branch recovers stolen cash, ornaments worth Rs 34.5 lakhs

Pune: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – Within a week after cash and ornaments worth Rs 34.5 lakh were stolen from the house of famous lawyer S K Jain’s brother’s house in Bopodi, sleuths from the Crime Branch of Pune city police nabbed two accused and recovered all the stolen booty.

The arrested persons include a Nepali man who worked as domestic help for the last four months.

Ashish Bhawarlal Jain (39) of Bopodi had lodged an FIR in this regard with Khadki police station on November 11.

According to police, the Jain family had gone for the pilgrimage to Bhimashankar on November 10. Their domestic help Keshar Prem Sahi (23) called his friend Krishna Vikrabahadur Shah (35), also a Nepali, who lived in Mumbai and three others. They decamped with the booty.

Police found some difficulties initially as neither the Jain family nor the security agency which had hired Sahi had his full details. Police have appealed people to get the police verification done of their employees including domestic help, watchmen, security guards.

After getting information, several teams under the guidance of DCP (crime) Shirish Sardeshpande and ACP (the crime I) Sameer Shaikh fanned out in search of the accused person. After the tip-off that the two accused were fleeing to Nepal via Delhi, a team of cyber crime cell which was camping in Delhi was asked to follow the accused persons. At the same time, a team led by ACP Shaikh reached Delhi by flight. The two accused were arrested near Hapur in Uttar Pradesh when they were traveling on a bus.

DCP Sardeshpande said that all the stolen cash and ornaments, totally worth Rs 34.5 lakhs, have been seized from the accused persons and search is on for their accomplices.

Police inspector Murlidhar Karpe of crime branch unit 3 said that Sahi is in police custody till November 27 while Shah has been remanded to magisterial custody.
