Pune CP Amitesh Kumar Announces Massive Transfer of Personnel Amidst Concerns

Pune: In a significant development within the Pune Police Commissionerate, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar unveiled plans to transfer approximately 700 to 800 police personnel by February 15. Addressing the media, Commissioner Kumar emphasised the need for strategic personnel reallocation, aiming to invigorate operational efficiency and prevent stagnation within the force.

The announcement, however, has stirred apprehension among the police ranks. Many officers, accustomed to their current postings, now find themselves facing imminent relocation. Kumar underscored the necessity of injecting fresh vigour into the force.

Expressing concern over prolonged tenures in specific roles or departments, Commissioner Kumar initiated a rigorous assessment process to identify officers who have served for more than five years in the same station or department. This scrutiny forms part of a larger overhaul strategy aimed at promoting diversity and skill development across various police divisions, including the Crime Branch, Traffic Branch, Special Branch, and Headquarters.

Already, the shake-up has commenced with the transfer of 35 sub-inspectors of police and 31 assistant inspectors of police. The reshuffle has left many officers feeling unsettled, particularly those accustomed to the comfort of familiar precincts and duties.

Commissioner Kumar sought to allay fears by assuring that the transfer process would be conducted with sensitivity and adherence to established protocols. In a bid to mitigate potential disruptions, officers being transferred will have the opportunity to express their preferences, with a choice of three preferred destinations, provided they meet the requisite criteria.

“While every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience, it is imperative that these transfers are executed in accordance with established guidelines,” Commissioner Kumar affirmed.
