Pune ACB Trap | PMC’s meter reader arrested while accepting bribe of ₹25,000 for issuing NOC

He had sought ₹10,000 each for two senior officials and ₹5,000 for himself

PUNE : Pune ACB Trap | The Pune ACB has arrested a meter reader red handed while accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 for giving a no objection certificate of the water supply department of the PMC.
The meter reader has been identified as Umesh Rajaram Kavthekar (54). He is employed in the Chatuhshrungi water supply department.

 

The complainant is a licenced plumber and he does liaisoning work. A builder wanted an NOC for a property in Shivaji Nagar from the water supply department. The complainant had made an application for the NOC and he had gone to the water supply department office located on Karve Road. Umesh Kavthekar demanded a bribe of ₹25,000. The complainant approached the ACB. When verifying the complaint, Kavthekar demanded ₹10,000 each for two senior officials and ₹5,000 for himself. A trap was laid at the water supply department office on Karve Road.

 

Kavthekar was arrested while accepting ₹25,000 from the complainant. The action was taken under the guidance of Pune ACB SP Amol Tambe and Addl SP Sheetal Janve, informed DySP Nitin Jadhav. PI Sandeep Varhade is probing the case.
