Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana : 28,000 km long roads will connect villages in the state

New Delhi: A network of more than 28,000 km of roads and more than 910 bridges will be constructed to connect villages in Maharashtra by roads. About 27,000 km of roads have been completed in the state so far under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, one of the schemes of Prime Minister Modi. This includes the longest roads being constructed in Naxal-affected Gadchiroli, Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik.

A total network of 28,083 km of roads is proposed to connect villages in Maharashtra by roads. The proposal of 6 thousand 055 roads has been approved under the Prime Minister’s Village Road Scheme. Road construction is expected to cost around Rs 8.67 lakh crore.

According to the ministry’s data, 320 roads and 128 bridges of 1795 km, 1573 km of bridges and 278 roads and 16 bridges, 225 roads and 19 bridges of 1408 km, 232 roads and 30 bridges of 1360 km length will be constructed in Gadchiroli.

An official in the ministry said that the Prime Minister’s Village Road Scheme plans to build year-round roads in villages that do not have roads in the core network. The government is facing many problems in the construction of the road such as Naxal activities, approval of the department, contracting process, low response from the contractors. Especially in districts like Gadchiroli and Nandurbar, there are more problems.
