Policeman Shankar Sampate suspended for keeping in touch with illegal dealers on WhatsApp
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Shankar Sampate suspended | A policeman attached to the Police Commissionerate who was in contact with people doing illegal businesses has been suspended. He has been identified as Shankar Shivaji Sampate.
DCP Vivek Patil issued an order in this regard. Shankar Sampate was earlier posted in various departments at the Police Commissionerate. He was transferred to the Police Commissionerate some months ago. Even after his transfer to the head office, he was constantly communicating with illegal business holders.
The top-rank police officers came to know about this. A departmental inquiry was launched in this regard. Preliminary investigations revealed that Sampate was frequently communicating on WhatsApp calling with the illegal dealers. DCP Vivek Patil then suspended him.
Many people use WhatsApp calling facility on their mobile phone thinking that it does not come under the purview of the police. The police investigated the WhatsApp call records in the Shankar Sampate case. He got exposed. This has triggered panic among those who use WhatsApp calls for such dealings.
The top-ranking police officers are monitoring the case.
