Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh killed as he was probing Akhlaq case

BULANDSHAHAR, UTTAR PRADESH: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- The sister of deceased police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh on Tuesday alleged that he was killed as he was probing the 2015 lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq. Singh and a 20-year-old Sumit, a bystander, died on Monday after being attacked by cow vigilantes.

Subodh’s sister has also demanded a martyr’s memorial in the name of her brother. She said that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should meet the victim’s family.

Subodh’s sister said, ‘My brother had investigated the Dadri lynching case and hence he was murdered. Why was my brother alone in the car? I want the answer. Why did Daroga and the driver ran away leaving Subodh? The police have got my brother killed. Our demand from Yogi ji is to make a martyr memorial in our brother’s name and meet our family. We demand that Subodh be given the martyr status.”

UP Police ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar told media persons that the SIT is investigating the entire incident. The whole facts will be revealed in the report. It is not right to reach any conclusions right now. So far, four people have been arrested in the Bulandshahar violence case and there is no evidence that any organization has been involved in this violence.

In the year 2015, a mob had Akhlaq was beated to death in Dadri. Akhlaq was accused of keeping beef in the house. In this case, Subodh Kumar Singh was the first investigating officer and he arrested the main accused in the case. He was praised in view of his quick action in this matter. Subodh, after the incident of Akhlaq, kept the law and order very tight in order to maintain peace in the area.

How inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed ?

 Around 11 am on Monday, around 400 people of three villages of Mau and surrounding areas of Syana had gathered on the main road. They had got information that cows are being transported to illegal slaughter house. Also, the carcasses of some animals were also found in the fields. Seeing this, people were already angry. On behalf of the police it was assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this matter. But the mob got up on violence and after nearly two hours control of the situation was found. Subodh was shot and also hit with stones when he tried to pacify people.
