PM Modi Visit Pune | PM Modi’s fifth visit to Pune in nine years
Pune : NpNews24 Online – PM Modi Visit Pune | Narendra Modi is the first PM to visit Pune for maximum number of times. His visit to the city on Tuesday is the fifth visit during his nine-year reign from 2014 to 2023. Earlier, Pandit Nehru had visited Pune four times, Indira Gandhi thrice and Rajiv Gandhi twice. Morarji Desai, PV Narasimha Rao, HD Deve Gowda and IK Gujral had visited the city while they were prime ministers. (PM Modi Visit Pune)
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had dedicated the National Defence Academy (NDA) and National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) to the nation. He had visited the city for NDA’s dedication in 1957 and in 1958 for NCL’s dedication. Later, Nehru had visited Pune with Russia’s PM Antony Khshurchev. Nehru had waved at people from an open car. Later, he visited Pune on July 12, 1961 to console the people who lost everything during Panshet floods.
Nehru had visited the flood-hit area in an open jeep and he had been welcomed by the then mayor Rohidas Kirad. The then CM Yashwantrao Chavan was with Nehru. When passing through the Deccan area, Nehru had stopped at the Khandojibaba Chowk and met Anantrao Dixit of International Book Service. He had also visited the PMC head office.
When Indira Gandhi was PM in 1974, the Pune University had awarded her a doctorate. She visited the city to accept the honour. Morarji Desai, who became PM during the Janata Party’s reign, had also visited Pune. Vasantdada Patil was the CM at that time. Activists of Congress had staged a protest and stopped his car near Tilak Smarak Mandir.
Rajiv Gandhi visited Pune twice
Rajiv Gandhi had visited Pune twice when he was PM. He had visited Pune on June 16, 1987. He had an image of being ‘Mr Clean’. Sharad Pawar was the CM. Rajiv Gandhi had addressed a meeting at the Congress Bhavan. He had come to Pune on January 7, 1988 for attending the conference of MPCC. He had addressed a huge rally at Nehru Stadium. Rajiv Gandhi had received an enthusiastic response from the youths, said Sanjay Balgude, who was an office-bearer of Youth Congress.
PV Narasimha Rao had visited Pune when he was the PM. At that time also, a public meeting had been held at the Congress Bhavan. He had dedicated the blood bank and ambulance facility to the people. When Atal Behari Vajpayee was the PM, he had come to Pune and visited the Kelkar Chowk. The reason for the visit was to campaign for Suresh Kalmadi, who was contesting the election as a candidate of Pune Vikas Aghadi.
Manmohan Singh had also visited Pune during his 10-year reign. He was brought to Pune by the then agriculture minister Sharad Pawar. Now, Sharad Pawar is bringing Modi to Pune. Manmohan Singh’s programme was held at BMCC.
PM Modi has visited Pune four times. He announced the Smart City project of the Central government in Pune on June 25, 2016.
The ground breaking ceremony of Pune Metro project was done by him. During both these visits, NCP’s Prashant Jagtap was the mayor.
In 2019, he had addressed a public meeting on the SP College ground.
Modi had dedicated the Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad to Fugewadi stretches to the people on March 6, 2023.
Now, Modi is visiting the city for the fifth time to receive the Lokmanya Tilak National Award. He will also inaugurate the extended stretches of the Pune Metro but the project is still incomplete.
