PM Modi replies to Motion of Thanks on President’s address in Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday renewed the government’s offer of talks with protesting farmers and slammed opposition parties for making a U-turn on the issue. “The need of the hour is to improve the lives of the small farmers,” PM Modi said in Rajya Sabha while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.

On Friday, the marathon debate in the Rajya Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President’s address had concluded with 50 speakers from 25 political parties taking part in the discussion which was spread over three days.

Taunting the opposition for not listening to the President’s address, PM Modi said, “I am standing here to thank the President. The President’s speech is going to build confidence. It was a speech to show the country the way for this decade. Members of the Rajya Sabha presented their views for 13-14 hours. I thank everyone for that. It would have been better if the President’s speech had been heard. The dignity of democracy would have increased. All of us would not have been sad if we had not listened to the speech. The value of President’s speech gained more attention as members spoke without even listening”

“Today the whole world is gripping with crises. No one would have thought that the human race would have to go through such a difficult time. The President’s speech came amid a series of crises. This is his first speech of the decade. India is truly a land of opportunities. Several opportunities are awaiting us, so a nation which is young, full of enthusiasm & a nation that is making efforts to realize the dreams, with a resolve, will never let these opportunities simply pass by”, Modi said.
