Explaining the issue, a railway spokesperson said that in view of the growing epidemic of Coronavirus infection, the railways have increased the price of platform tickets of the station to 50 rupees.

When this matter became viral on social media too, the Railways had to give clarification on this issue. The railway spokesperson tweeted from his official Twitter handle and informed that the purpose of keeping the platform ticket price of ₹ 50 by Pune Junction of Maharashtra is to unnecessarily stop the visitors coming to the station. When the ticket prices are high, the crowd of unnecessary people will automatically reduce at the railway station. Due to reduced congestion, social distancing will be followed and it will be easy to stop the fast spreading coronavirus infection in the country. Even in the early days of Coronavirus infection, social distancing was followed at such stations by increasing railway platform ticket prices.

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh also targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on social media for raising the price of platform tickets. Attacking BJP on Twitter, he wrote that the railway platform ticket was Rs 3 in Congress regime, it has become 50 rupees during BJP rule.

Railway passengers issue platform tickets for two hours validity for the passengers or their relatives to stay at the railway station. This means that if you are going to leave or take any of your relatives on the railway platform, it is allowed to stay on the platform for 2 hours after purchasing the ticket. The government has adopted this new method to prevent coronavirus infection.
