Pimpri: More than 21 birds found dead in PCMC, Avian Influenza scare among citizens

Pimpri-Chinchwad : More than 21 crows, sparrows, pigeons, bats, and other birds have died in the city area, causing panic among the people. Earlier, the state’s Animal Husbandry Department had said that there was no threat of Bird Flu.

The district animal husbandry department has not yet clarified the cause of death of the birds. For several days the veterinary department has received complaints from Chinchwadgaon, Bhosari, Walhekarwadi, Pradhikaran, Nigdi, Moshi, Indrayanagar of dying birds which included crows, pigeons, sparrows, bats.

Municipal Veterinary Officer Dr. Arun Dagde and Dr. Ghanshyam Pawar have been getting information on the deaths of birds after visiting various areas across the city. They clarified that the cause of death will be clarified only after a medical report examination.

Meanwhile, two pigeons have contracted chickenpox and are undergoing treatment at the Municipal Corporation’s Bahinabai Zoo. Along with this, many birds fall prey to the nylon thread used to fly kites. Reportedly, 4 Eagles were injured and their wings were found to be broken after being cut by nylon thread.
