Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch Apprehends MCOCA Accused with Illegal Weapon

Pimpri-Chinchwad: In a significant breakthrough, the Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch Unit 2 successfully apprehended an absconding accused involved in MCOCA crimes, confiscating a pistol and cartridges worth Rs 51,000 from his possession. The operation, conducted near Zhulelal Temple at River Road Subhashnagar on Thursday (15th), culminated in the arrest of Jatin alias Sonu Bipin Tak, a 29-year-old resident of River Road, Pimpri.

The decisive action comes as part of a specialised operation targeting individuals harbouring illegal weapons within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. Assistant Police Constable Deepak Kharat, acting on intelligence inputs, led the operation after receiving information that Sonu Tak, a notorious MCOCA fugitive, was sighted in the Pimpri area, reportedly armed with a pistol.

Upon receiving confirmation of Tak’s presence near Jhulelal Temple in Subhashnagar, the team swiftly moved in and laid a trap in the vicinity. As Tak attempted to flee upon sighting police personnel, he was promptly apprehended by the team. A subsequent search of his body led to the seizure of a loaded pistol and two cartridges.

Sonu Tak, with a history of criminal activity, is linked to a total of 16 serious offences, including attempted murder, extortion, and arms-related violations, along with two cases under the stringent MCOCA Act. Notably, in 2023, Tak was implicated in a violent altercation during Ganapati Visarjan, where he attempted to fatally shoot Rohit Waghmare. Since evading authorities following the incident, Tak has remained a fugitive since 2023.

In response to Tak’s latest arrest, a case has been lodged against him at the Pimpri Police Station, with Police Commissioner Ajit Sanap overseeing proceedings.

This action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime Sandeep Doifode, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Branch Satish Mane, by the team of Police Inspector Jitendra Kadam, Police Sub-Inspector Kerappa Mane, Assistant Police Faujdar Deepak Kharat, Dilip Chaudhary, Jamir Tamboli, Vipul Jadhav, Namdev Kapse, Sagar Avasare, Ajit Sanap, Shivaji Mundhe, and Uddhav Khedkar.
