Peruvian cop suspended for kissing woman instead of fining her for breaching COVID-19 protocols

A police officer has been suspended after he was caught on camera kissing a woman instead of penalizing her for breaching a COVID-19 curfew.

This incident took place in Lima, the capital of Peru, and the policeman stopped a woman at Malecon de la Marina (Miraflores Boardwalk) which runs close to the Pacific Ocean. As curfew is imposed in Peru, the policeman was about to write a notice and fine the woman for breaching the coronavirus restrictions but the woman tried to convince the policeman for not fining her by offering him a kiss. In the beginning, the policeman hesitated but later on, he agreed and kissed the woman in place of fining her.

The unnamed officer was forced to temporarily leave his job amid an ongoing investigation carried out by authorities in the Peruvian capital Lima. The decision to send him home pending an ongoing investigation was taken by the mayor of the district of Miraflores in the Peruvian capital Lima.

 Peru extended a state of emergency last week as the country is struggling to come to grips with a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak. As part of its COVID-19 regulations, citizens in high-risk areas such as Lima are required to remain indoors between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. On Tuesday, Peru announced more than 44,000 people had died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
