Pune : Parag Karandikar | Parag Karandikar, the esteemed Chief Editor of Maharashtra Times, has been appointed as a member of the prestigious Press Council of India. This appointment marks a significant achievement for Karandikar and is a testament to his exceptional contributions to journalism throughout his career.

 

Karandikar joins the ranks of esteemed journalists who have been bestowed with the honor of serving on the Press Council. He becomes only the second editor of a Marathi newspaper to receive this appointment, following in the footsteps of Govind Talwalkar, editor of Maharashtra Times, who was appointed in 1980.

 

The appointment as a member of the Press Council of India is widely regarded as a matter of great pride for journalists, highlighting their professional integrity and commitment to the field. In the past, eight individuals from various categories have represented Marathi journalism in the council. These include Nanasaheb Parulekar, the founder of ‘Sakaal’, who served as a member from the category of newspaper owners, as well as Vijay Darda of Lokmat, who also held this esteemed position. Furthermore, Anant Bagaitkar and Vijay Naik were appointed as members from the category of ‘Working Journalists’, while Prataprao Pawar and Rajeev Sabade of Sakal represented the ‘University Grants Commission’ category. Parag Karandikar now joins this illustrious group as a member from the category of editors.
