Nirbhaya Case : Convict Pawan Gupta Opts for Last Hope, Sent Mercy Petition to President

New Delhi : npnews24 : Convicted of Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, Pawan has adopted the last option to avoid hanging. Shortly after the Supreme Court rejected the curative petition, the convicted Pawan sent a mercy petition to President Ramnath Kovind. After the decision of the Supreme Court, all the legal options of Nirbhaya’s convicts were abolished. Meanwhile, Pawan sent a mercy petition to the President. Convict Pawan’s lawyer AP Singh said that the mercy petition was sent at 12 noon. The Patiala House Court has issued a death warrant of March 3 for the hanging of four convicts of Nirbhaya.

The curative petition of Pawan Gupta, convicted for the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, has been dismissed by the Supreme Court on Monday. The plea of convict Pawan was heard by a bench of five judges – justices NV Ramana, Justice Arun Mishra, Justice RF Nariman, Justice R Bhanumati and Justice Ashok Bhushan.

Pawan had requested to convert the hanging to life imprisonment, claiming himself to be a minor at the time of the crime. Pawan, through advocate AP Singh, had filed a curative petition requesting the Supreme Court’s decision on appeal and reconsideration petitions in the case.
