Nirbhaya Case : Center’s Plea Rejected, HC said – Convicts cannot be Hanged Separately

New Delhi: In the Nirbhaya case, the Delhi High Court, while giving the verdict on the application of the Central Government, said that the four convicts cannot be hanged separately. The central government had filed an application in the court to hang the culprits soon, on which the court had reserved its verdict on Sunday and today was decided.

The Central Government had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court in this case, saying that the four convicts were trying to take wrong advantage of the judicial system and they should be hanged soon.

Therefore, the convicts whose mercy petition has been rejected or whose petition is not pending should be hanged. The remaining 3 convicts cannot be relieved from hanging if the plea of other is pending.

Jitendra Jha, a lawyer for Nirbhaya’s parents, said, “Justice Kait replied that he held hearings on Saturday and Sunday, which showed that the court understood the case’s urgency and also assured that he will pass the order as soon as possible.”
