Newly married techie hang, family alleges dowry harassment

In a shocking incident, all marriages are not a bed of roses, hardly seven-month-old marriage a newly married 25-year-old Capgemini software techie from Hyderabad committed suicide by strangulating at ceiling fan with help of dupatta.

The deceased woman who fell in love with a gym trainer and married him seven months ago ended her life by hanging due to alleged dowry harassment at Manikonda, Hyderabad.

The incident had taken place on Sunday morning when she was alone at home. The police have identified the deceased as P Rupini. She worked as software techie in Capgemini company.

On Sunday morning, when complainant Murali Krishna went out to get breakfast, Rupini committed suicide by hanging.

When Murali returned with breakfast, he noticed that Rupini’s bedroom door was locked from inside. As she did not respond to his calls and later they forcefully broke it. He was shocked to see his daughter hanging on the ceiling fan with her dupatta.

Deceased Rupini’s father Murali Krishna has registered a criminal complaint with police.

According to police, “deceased’s victim had fallen in love with Sandeep Raja, who was a gym trainer. On March 4, 2018, the duo tied a knot and a month later that is on April they shifted in an apartment at Chitrapuri Colony in Manikonda, Hyderabad.”

He added, “Three months after the marriage, Sandeep and his parents, Lalitha and Satyanarayana, started harassing the daughter for dowry and on petty issues they had taken up the fight with her in order to harass her. They were demanding half the share of the deceased property as dowry claims deceased’s father in the complaint.”

The police have registered the case against Sandeep and in-laws under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprises of 498A harassment by husband and in-laws, 306 abetment to suicide, 34 an act was done by them with common intention. Also under Dowry prohibition act.
