New rules for LPG connections to benefit customers

NEW DELHI: The Central government is coming up with new rules for the domestic LPG cylinders. The government seeks to address woes faced by customers.

According to the new rules, customers can now book their gas cylinders with 3 dealers rather than one, which means customers can acquire the gas cylinders from any nearby dealer. This will help the customers. If one dealer does not respond, they can directly shift to another.

Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary Tarun Kapoor stated that a scheme for providing gas connections with minimum documentation and without any permanent address is ready.

He said that for getting an LPG gas connection one needs address proof. These documents are not available for everyone and hard to get in villages.

The Central government has also come up with a scheme of providing 1 crore free LPG gas connections in 2 years.

Kapoor stated that in the last four years, 8 crore free LPG connections were provided to women, taking the LPG users in the country to 29 crore.
