‘Navi Mumbai-Mandwa-Gateway’ Waterway to start from March

Mumbai : The dream of Navi Mumbaikars to travel to Mumbai or Alibaug by sea is likely to come true in the next six months. Work on the Nerul Bay jetty is nearing completion and the Nerul-Gateway of India-Mandwa route will be launched in March. Since the shipping will start, the two-hour distance will be reduced to just half an hour.

Work on the jetty, which stands in Nerul Bay, was started in 2018. The waterway connecting Mumbai and Mandwa is at Nerul Bay in Navi Mumbai. The work of Nerul jetty, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 111 crore, was stalled due to environmental permits and corona. MP Rajan Vichare and CIDCO MD Sanjay Mukherjee were present to inspect the project. They visited and reviewed.

It currently takes one and a half to two hours to travel from Navi Mumbai to Mumbai, Alibag by local or road. However, the journey will be easier for the citizens after the commencement of water transport in this way. Now that the jetty will be completed in March and shipping will begin, it will be possible to reach the Gateway of India and Mandwa in just half an hour.

CIDCO MD Sanjay Mukherjee has clarified that all the permits have been completed even though it took 18 months for the Forest Department to get the permits. Sanjay Mukherjee said the jetty would be handed over to the Maritime Board by March.
