Nandurbar police arrest two from outside State for watching people withdraw money from bank and steal it

Nandurbar : NpNews24 Online The Nandurbar Police Local Crime Branch has arrested two thieves hailing from outside the State, who used to keep a watch on bank customers withdrawing money. They used to steal their money. The Nandurbar police recovered Rs 1 lakh stolen from the accused and returned the amount to the complainant.

The arrested has been identified as Nim Nemilal Gujjar (20), a resident of Bicholi, district Indore. His accomplice, a minor, has also been detained. Mahendra Shamrao Marathe, a resident of Jagtap Wadi, lodged a complaint at the Nandurbar City police station on February 1.

According to the police, Marathe withdrew Rs 1 lakh from the local branch of State Bank of India. He put this money in the dickey of his vehicle. Later, he went shopping in the Nagarpalika Chowk area in the city. The accused were snooping on him. When there was no one around the vehicle, the accused stole the bag containing money from the vehicle. On his return, he found the money missing from the dickey. He immediately lodged a complaint with the police.

Speaking on this modus operandi of a gang of thieves, Superintendent of Police PR Patil said he realised that the gang became active in the city. Realising the gravity of situation, he directed LCB PI Ravindra Kalamkar to form two teams and search for the accused.

PI Kalamkar got a hint from the modus operandi used for the theft that such thefts were committed by thieves with the help of minors in the nearby districts such as Indore and Rajpur of Madhya Pradesh. He also got primary clues that these people stayed outside the city. The police checked the CCTV footage from the area, where the crime took place. They saw a minor and young man moving suspiciously and then escaping.

As the police were searching for the two suspects, PI Kalamkar came to know that some people from Indore were camping at Korit Chaufuli in Nandurbar. They were keeping a watch on people withdrawing money from the bank and stealing their money.

A police team immediately rushed to the camp and searched for the suspects. They spotted a culprit having tea at a kiosk. The police laid a trap. However, the accused got wind of their action and tried to escape from the spot. The police chased and then held him. After sustained interrogation, he admitted to have committed the theft with the help of a minor. He also returned the stolen money to the police.

The action was taken under the guidance of SP PR Patil and Addl SP Vijay Pawar. The team comprising PI Ravindra Kalamkar, API Sandeep Jijabrao, PSI Gulabrao Sonawane, police personnel Rakesh More, Abhay Rajput Ananda Marathe, Abhimanyu Gavit, Shoaib Shaikh and Ramesh Salunkhe took part this action.
