Manmohan Singh Allotted Rs. 100 Crore to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in the Budget As Finance Minister

New Delhi : The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has come into the limelight after news of donations received from the Chinese Embassy to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation named after former Prime Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi. It has been said on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party that money was also donated to this Foundation from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Now another fact has come out in which it is revealed that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also announced to give Rs 100 crore to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in the budget after becoming Finance Minister.

When Manmohan Singh became the Finance Minister of the country in 1991, he presented his first such budget which introduced liberalism in India and accelerated the economic reforms. But in the same budget, he had also announced to give 100 crore rupees to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and said that this money will be given in 5 years and 20-20 crore rupees will be given every year. It is mentioned in para number 57 of the copy of Manmohan Singh’s 1991 budget speech.

The country was going through an economic crisis in 1991, as well as a political crisis in the country. On the one hand, in February 1991, the then Chandrashekhar government could not pass the full budget and on the other hand, on 21 May 1991, senior Congress party leader Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. After this, a government was again formed in the country under the leadership of Narasimha Rao and in that government, Manmohan Singh was made the Finance Minister of the country. Manmohan Singh presented the budget on 24 July 1991.

PMNRF & many ministries also donated the foundation
BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday alleged that Congress used to divert PMNRF money to a family foundation and cheated people. Apart from this, many government companies and ministries donated to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation during the 10-year rule of the Congress-led UPA. Some of the major companies and banks that have donated to the Foundation include State Bank of India, LIC, Oil India Limited, SAIL, Bank of Maharashtra, ONGC, GAIL and many others. At the same time, if you talk about the ministries, the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Home Affairs have also donated this foundation during the UPA regime.
