Maharashtra Monsoon Session | Property tax on houses of 500 sq feet and less area should be waived off, demands MLA Sunil Kamble

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Monsoon Session | MLA Sunil Kamble made a demand in the state assembly that property tax should be waived off for owners of houses measuring 500 sq feet and less area in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits. Kamble moved a calling attention notice and asked whether residents of houses measuring 500 sq feet and less, will be exempted from paying property tax by the PMC.

“There are many properties whose owners owe ₹7,000 to ₹8,000 crores to the PMC. The civic body does not have any mechanism to recover the pending dues. The PMC has rented out many properties but does it have a system to recover the pending dues?” Kamble asked in the assembly.

Minister Uday Samant said, “Many people have raised this issue. At present, there is no proper system. A report about property taxes to be levied in newly-included villages will be sought from the state government. Later, a decision will be taken.”
