Maharashtra : 89 doses of Covaxin wasted in three days, Reports Bharat Biotech

Mumbai : Covaxin vaccination is also included in vaccination drives in the state along with Covishield. In the last three days, 89 doses of Covaxin have been wasted in the state. The state is not getting the desired response to the vaccination process that started on Saturday.

Each dose of Covishield vaccine is 0.5 ml. It contains 10 doses. Covaxin contains 20 doses. In the first three days of vaccination, between Saturday, January 16, January 19 and 20, 89 doses were wasted. The dose of the Covaxin vaccine, once opened, can last only four hours, according to Bharat Biotech, the maker of the vaccine.

Covaxin vaccination is underway at six places in the state. In Mumbai, 13 doses have been wasted at J. J. Hospital, 26 at Nagpur Government Medical College, 16 at Aurangabad Government Hospital, 13 at Solapur Government Hospital and 14 at Pune Government Hospital. The lowest dose of seven doses was wasted at the government hospital in Amravati.

According to data from six centers, vaccine doses have been wasted in the early days. However, on the second day, it increased by 129 per cent. Due to low enrolment of beneficiaries at these six centers, 39 doses have been wasted. On the third day, 33 doses were wasted, the health department said.

– Out of 600 registered on January 16, 383 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
– On January 19, 181 out of 250 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
– Vaccination of 327 health workers on January 20. In Amravati, 115 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
