Koshyari swears in as Maharashtra governor

Np News 24 Mumbai: Former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari sworn in as the new governor of Maharashtra on Thursday.  He was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice if Bombay High Court Pradip Nadrajog.

The ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan   State Cheif Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the ceremony along with several other dignitaries.  Koshyari has replaced Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

Rao was the state’s governor since 2014.
Koshyari, a senior BJP leader, visited Siddhivinayak Temple in central Mumbai and offered prayers earlier in the day.  Koshyari served as National Vice President of BJP and party’s first state president for Uttarakhand.
He also served as second chief minister of Uttarakhand (formerly Uttaranchal) from 2001 to 2002 and thereafter, he was the leader of the opposition of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2007.
has also served as an MLC in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (when Uttarakhand was part of undivided Uttar Pradesh) and MLA in Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly.  Later, he served as an MP in Rajya Sabha from 2008 to 2014 from Uttarakhand and presently MP in the 16th Lok Sabha from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar constituency, earning him the distinction of being elected in both houses of state legislative assembly and both houses of national parliament respectively.
