Kidnapped child rescued after 4 days, Rs 5 lakhs ransom was demanded

PIMPRI: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- A five-year-old son of a scrap dealer who was kidnapped from Thergaon for Rs five lakhs ransom by two accused, was successfully rescued by the team from Wakad police station under Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate. It was truly Diwali for the family members of kidnapped child Sufiyan Khan.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Mohammed Shakeel Salim Khan (32) of Mumbai and Sharukh Miraj Khan (26) of Walhekarwadi. Shahrukh is into catering business and Shakeel worked with him. Both are relatives also. Their shop is located near beauty parlour of Sufiyan’s mother at Kunal Residency in Thergaon. She had helped him financially few times. Shahrukh was demanding more money as he was under debt and wedding of his younger brother was planned. However, she had refused to give more money.

According to police, Shahrukh was acquainted with Sufiyan who used to visit the beauty parlour. On October 4, Sufiyan was playing in the parking area of Kunal Residency when Shahrukh came there on a bike took him away. The child did not resist as he was known person. Shahrukh had asked Shakeel to keep a watch on the activities of the family. Meanwhile, after Sufiyan was not found his father lodged a complaint with police thinking he had gone missing. However two days later, he received a call from Shahrukh who demanded ransom of Rs five lakhs and threatened harm the child their demand was not fulfilled.

Sufyan’s father Nasir Khan immediately alerted the Wakad police station officials who formed separate teams to trace the child. He had taken the child to to Shikrapur, Lonavla and Vasai, Virar. Two days later the called Sufiyan’s mother and demanded Rs five lakhs ransom.

The kidnapper was called to Chinchwad to take the ransom amount on Wednesday. When the accused came with the child to get the money, he was taken into custody and Sufiyan was rescued. A total of nine officers and 50 police personnel from Wakad police station and Crime Branch were involved in the rescue operation.

Police commissioner R K Padmanabhan, Additional Police Commissioner Makrand Ranade, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Namrata Patil, Assistant Police Commissioner Sridhar Jadhav supervised the investigation team which included senior police inspector Satish Mane, in-charge of Wakad police station, Police sub inspector Harish Mane, and policemen Dattatray Sansas, Bibshan Kanherkar, Ramesh Gaikwad, Pramod Bhandarkar and Madhukar Chavan.
