Kathua Rape Case ex-lawyer Deepika homeless with 6-year-old daughter, Why?

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Deepika Singh Rajawat, who came out as a strong woman lawyer fighting for justice to Kathua rape victim, is now facing difficulties to rent a house in Jammu.

After the Kathua rape case, Deepika Singh Rajawat got various death threat calls which constantly encouraged her to stop fighting for the case and give justice to the victim. Since, the accused in the case involved various politicians and people having a good connection, hence threat calls were quite predictable. And, being a Hindu-Muslim controversy added cherry to the cake.

Rajawat started facing problems of renting house when the Bakharwat family (victim’s family) removed her as their lawyer appointed to fight the rape case. She became famous after which and later chief minister Mehbooba Mufti provided her with government accommodation.

Deepika Singh Rajawat has now become homeless with her six-year-old daughter and according to reports, she revealed that as soon as the family’s application of removing her as a lawyer came into light, since then, threats against her have increased and she is facing refusal and disappointment every place she goes to stay or ask for accommodation.

Deepika is currently staying in a government house with her daughter in Gandhi Nagar who has been told to vacate the house after being removed from Kathua case. And, three PSOs (Personal Security Officers) were deployed for her safety.

‘This is astonishing, that when you stand for the right you have to face such hardships’. Rajawat expresses her wish to vacate the house too because of constant threats but no one is willing to rent her house. Landlords are afraid that their houses might get targeted by those who want to harm her.

Rajawat asking a question devastated said, ‘Is this the way how our society treats an activist?’  Mehbooba Mufti shared a post on Twitter which read, “How strange- a young woman who stood against the storm of barbarity to defend the little girl is being forced to vacate the govt accommodation. Much needed intervention by HE”.
