Inter-school drama competition with Ganesh Utsav theme

On the occasion of Ganesh Festival 2018, Safe Kids Foundation and Honeywell in collaboration with Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Fire Department conducted inter-school drama competition on the theme ‘Agni Surakshechi Kas Dharu, Surakshit Ganeshotsav Sajara Karu’

Such an event was held on Friday at Dnyanjyoti Savitribai Phule Sanskrutik Bhavan, Bhavani Peth, Pune.

During festivals, there are many incidents of electrical and firecracker burns and it is imperative we safeguard ourselves with the right awareness of the precautionary measures.

To ensure the safety of children from various hazards related to fire and burns while welcoming Lord Ganesha to our homes and to sensitize students on prevent fire incidences and fire injuries, this competition was organized. 100 students of 10 selected schools from PMC and PCMC got a unique platform to showcase their creative ideas and acting skills. The dramas were judged based on acting skills, relevance to the theme, originality, stage presentation, delivery, dramatic techniques, and appropriate attire.

The programme started with Ganesh Vandana, followed by drama presentations and was concluded with a street play on fire safety presented by Safe Kids Foundation and felicitating the winners of the competition.

The winners of the competition were: First prize: Modern Boy’s High school, Shivaji Nagar
Second prize: Shiv Chatrapati Vidyalay Sai Nagar
Third prize: Nav Maharashtra Vidyalaya Pimpri
Consolation- PES Girl’s Highschool, Shivajinagar

Best actor and best actress awards were awarded to Rutvik Samel, Modern Boy’s Highschool, Shivaji Nagar & Saee Prashant Joshi, Sundarabai Marathe School respectively. The winning schools were felicitated with trophies and certificates.

Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Gilbile, Divisional Fire Office PMC said that Pune Fire Bridge is working with Safe Kids Foundation since last many years and they are doing good work in fire safety.

Dr. Cinthia Pinto, programme director, Safe Kids Foundation, while wishing all Punekars a happy and safe Ganesh Chaturthi, said, “Ganesh festival commences across the country for 10 days and everyone is celebrating with much zeal. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were, Vasudev Ekbote, Senior Radio Technician, Fire Department, Pune Municipal Corporation, Ganesh Mane, Assistant Professor, Mass Communication Department, Abasaheb Garware College, representatives from schools and Safe Kids Foundation.

Safe Kids Foundation & Honeywell works very closely with the Fire Departments and Municipal Corporations to sensitize students and parents on fire and burn prevention through training and awareness campaigns in the schools and communities.

Till date, the programme has reached out to 4,50,00 students from 1094 schools and 350,000 parents from 244 communities across the Pune based both the municipal cooperations since its inception in 2015.

This initiative has also won – ‘Excellence in Home Safety’, global award 2017 for its innovation and commendable work.
