Indian Fashion Show at London Fashion Week, Indian High Commission Celebrates ‘India Day’

New Delhi: Indian culture has always been liked in abroad. Something similar was seen at London’s biggest fashion show when foreign models walked the ramp wearing Indian apparel saris. The Indian High Commission in London organized a catwalk, in which they displayed around 17 different sarees from across the country in front of people. These included Kashmiri and Phulkari from North India, Kantha and Baluchari from West Bengal, Gharchola from Gujarat, Paithani from Maharashtra, Kanjivaram from Tamil Nadu and Kasavu sarees from Kerala.

After organizing this event, a video message from Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani came out in which she said, ‘These thousands of textiles have brought you a rich variety of Indian textiles. Sari is not only a cloth but an important reflection of our heritage of textiles, it is also a matter of Indian pride. The ceremony was attended by UK Foreign Minister Lord Tariq Ahmed to Israeli Ambassador Mark Regev and the Bangladeshi High Commissioner in Britain.’

Indian High Commissioner in Britain informed that ‘sarees were borrowed from all the people for this program to show the cultural heritage. Those will be returned soon. He told that this ceremony was in the name of the amazing designers and weavers who manufacture them.’  The program of ‘India Day’ at London Fashion Week started on Friday, which will end on Tuesday.
