IMD Issues Orange ALERT, Predicts Heavy Rain with Strong Winds in These 9 States for Next 4 Days

New Delhi : Amid the Coronavirus crisis, the Meteorological Department has now warned of heavy rains with strong winds. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country from the next four days i.e. 16 to 19 April. In view of the possibility of heavy rains, Orange alert has been issued in 9 states of the country.

Heavy rains with strong winds in these 9 states –
The Meteorological Department has put Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar on orange alert on Thursday. In view of the alert, the administration has advised people to be vigilant during inclement weather. It is also feared that in Arunachal Pradesh, heavy rains and thunderstorms could occur with gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph in the next two days. Due to the activities of strong moist winds from the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are expected in North-Eastern India as well as in the eastern states of West Bengal, Sikkim and East Bihar. Thunderstorms and hail have also been predicted in these areas.

Apart from this, heavy rain, thunder and hailstorms have been predicted in Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for four consecutive days as well as lightning is expected. West Bengal may see heavy rainfall of up to 7-11 cm. Thunderstorms, strong winds and hailstorm have been predicted at some places in these states on 16 and 18 April. The Meteorological Department has put Sikkim on orange alert on 16 and 18 April. In Bengal and Bihar, an alert has been issued for April 18.
