Convicted Akbar’s Pune Connection:

Akbar Ismail Choudhary is from Pune’s Kondhwa area. He is a resident of Mithanagar. His father used to work in a mosque.

Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal were the masterminds of this blast. These are the founders of Indian Mujahideen. Akbar went to Hyderabad following the order of Riyaz. When Akbar left for Hyderabad all he had in his hand was Rs 6000 and a cell phone which had only one number saved in it.

Akbar is a 10th standard fail school dropout student. He is second amongst the four other brothers. He was arrested by Gujrat ATS in 2008 and his elder brother Mohsin left the house and the investigation agencies accused his role in German Bakery bomb blast case.

It all started in Pune:

According to the Prosecution case, it seems that the master plan of the bomb blast kick-started in 2005 which was allegedly executed in the year of 2007. When Akbar went to Hyderabad he first picked up a job in Marketing and later in Hyderabad he met the mastermind of the blast named Riyaz as per the investigation reports.

Riyaz personated himself and introduced as Civil Engineer, he also advised Akbar that he is here to do a course. Then they both started doing fabrication work. Akbar was 26 years of age then. Akbar’s brother Mohsin and Riyaz’s brother Iqbal were both friends. Moshin is the one who was arrested as a suspect in Pune’s German bakery bomb blast and JM road serial bomb blast.

In mid-2005, Riyaz took Akbar to his native place at Bhatkal in Karnataka for a week. He was then introduced to various people including Sultan, who also played an important role in Hyderabad bomb blast. Akbar went to Mumbai to enroll at the course. In this span of time, Akbar visited Bhatkal village three times. These three visits to Bhatkal changed the life of Akbar.

Aneeq Shafiq Syed who teaches the Arabic language in Camp area in Pune met Akbar who enrolled for his classes. Akbar and Aneeq met through mutual friends. After this, he was introduced to several strangers at the Arabic classes. Between 2005 and 2007, there was a radical change between Aneeq and Akbar.

Training started in Bengaluru

Riyaz’s return to Mumbai after three years he radicalises Aneeq and Akbar and brainwashed them. Riyaz started talking about Jihad and he took them along to Bhatkal twice and this time, Sultan brainwashed them about Jihad.

Akbar reportedly told investigators that by 2007, they all formed a group. In May 2007, he and Aneeq were taken to Bengaluru, where they were trained in firing and making bombs.

Parcel of Explosives

The most intriguing part of the plot is that a parcel was given to Akbar and Aneeq. Eight days before the blast, they were strictly told not to open it until the instruction was given.

In June 2007, Riyaz reportedly asked Aneeq to visit Hyderabad and take up a house under a false name. After that Akbar came to the city with Rs 6,000 rupees and a mobile phone which had only one phone number, that was of Aneeq’s and asked him to leave for Hyderabad from Pune, and also asked him to join a computer course.

Riyaz who visited the city about 15 days before the blasts, conducted a recce along with Aneeq and Akbar. The second day, he left Pune and sent a parcel to Aneeq and Akbar after three days, that is 12 days before the blasts.

It was only four days before the blasts were carried out that the parcel was opened in which the explosives were present.  They were then assembled by Akbar and were planted according to their plan.

In the blast, 42 people died and more than 50 were injured. The first explosion was made at the famous Gokul Chat in the central area of Hyderabad. Another explosion was carried out at Lumbini Park, which is a tourist place. After 11 years, victims of this blast were given justice today. Special Court today gave the verdict in this regard. Both have been convicted in this case. The judgment on Akbar, the accused of Pune resident, will be decided on Monday.
