Heavy Rain Forecast in Mumbai, Meteorological Department Issued Red Alert

Mumbai : The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 24 hours in Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Raigad on Friday evening, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department says that there is a possibility of torrential rains at many places in Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad on Saturday.

Earlier, the department had predicted torrential rains in Mumbai and adjoining areas on Saturday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places. An official of the Meteorological Department said late Friday that “A red alert has been issued for Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri for the next 24 hours, i.e. between July 3 and July 4. There is a possibility of torrential rains at some places.”

“On July 4, there is a possibility of torrential rains at some places in Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected at some places.” Meteorological Department Mumbai’s senior director Shubhangi Bhate had said on Thursday that Ratnagiri district is expected to receive very heavy rainfall on Friday and Raigad on Saturday.

Significantly, there was also a lot of damage due to the cyclonic storm Nisarg that came in Ratnagiri district last month. He said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of Mumbai.
