Health and Wealth both are in danger with online pharmacy : Former Food and Drugs Commissioner Zagade

The world is going online right from nail polish to clothes to the car every other thing is there to sell on the internet. The exitance of real shops is in danger as these virtual shops have taken over them. Selling clothes and other staff online is still ok but selling medicines online has made a question mark on the safety of the patients.

A group discussion was organized by the Pune Mahanagar Parishad, on if the Medicines which are sold online is dangerous or not. A panel of experts from all the sectors which are part of the industry was called up for the discussion. Many wholesalers and retailers also took part in it.

Mahesh Zagade Former Food and Drugs Commissioner one of the members of the panel said, “ It is might look good on the short run but it is hazardous in long run. The pharmacist industry makes the profit of more than 1,20,000 crore in India. More than 8.5 lakh people are there in this industry who is taking care of more than 100 crore people in India. These new and online players are harmful to that 8.5 lakhs. Giving way for these online sites will eventually make more unemployed chemist in this country. So not just health but wealth is also in danger.”

Easy Pharma app’s representative, Aniket Bohra with the view that how people are finding it easy to buy medicines said, “ There are people who need medicines every month and they cannot go out to buy that medicine so we are there to help them out. Talking about the discounts that online gives and offline doesn’t, even I am thinking on that how to tackle that and I don’t give 80% discount as no one can afford it. We have the proper chemist who has the license to sell and who are educated in it, so how are we selling it is wrong and you do it is right ?”

Former Municipal Commissioner and former food and drugs commissioner Mahesh Zagade, Cyber-crime expert Radhika Phadake, Dr. Shinde, Dr. Chandrakant Kadu, Member of Chemist Association Chakushke, Secretory Madan Patil, Suryakant Pathak, Online chemist Aniket Borah and Supply chain management expert Samir Godabole were present at the panel discussion.

This was fourth Panel Discussion by Pune Mahanagar Parishad, earlier the organization has taken the discussion on issues of Pune city, like parking issue, Rural areas of Pune and plastic ban. A document is made of this and sent to the higher authorities of government in a way to solve the issue as early as possible.
