Haryana : 250 houses in small village of 1200 residents put up daughter’s name on house plaques

Nuh: Normally, house nameplate consists of the name of male head of the family. But this has been reversed in the small village called Kirori in Nuh, Haryana. The 250 houses in the small village of 1,200 residents on Friday put up plaques at the entrance of homes with names of their daughters on it.

Nuh village is not developed or having features well-off districts but it has the highest sex ratio of 908 compared to other districts in Haryana.

According to a resident of the village, who now has a home after her name said, “This is a big day. People will now know our houses and families by our names’. Another 15 year old said, “Such initiatives will help in giving a new identity to the girl of the village and help in knowing their self-worth. This will help create awareness on gender equality”. The girls were also given a book on their basic rights.

This progressive step was part of ‘Laado Swabhiman’ as initiated by Sunil Jaglan, a former sarpanch of Bibipur village in Jind. This is not the first time that Sunil Jaglan has taken such a progressive step, earlier as well it has introduced whose selfie with daughter initiative which was recognized across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also appreciated the efforts of Sunil Jalgan. Jaglan says he was inspired by the Swamitva Yojna launched by Modi to help villagers get full rights of their properties.

According to Jaglan, Kirori has become the first village in the state and the country where each house has a nameplate with names of daughters on such a huge scale with uniformity. The same initiative will be extended to two more villages including Ghusbaithi and Bhutkala. The village sarpanch, Anjum Ara, it was a proud day for her.
